MountainOres is a Fabric mod that adds ore generation above sea level for Minecraft worlds of any height — from vanilla (320) to dramatically extended worlds reaching Y=2032 and beyond.
The Problem:
Vanilla Minecraft only generates ores up to around Y=320. With terrain datapacks like Lithosphere or JJThunder that create towering mountain ranges, players exploring high-altitude peaks find no ores whatsoever, making exploration frustrating and unrewarding.
The Solution:
MountainOres v2.0 automatically detects the actual world height at runtime and scales ore placement to fit — no manual configuration needed. Whether your world tops out at 320, 512, or 2032, the ore distribution adapts seamlessly.
A carefully balanced band system distributes ores across the full elevation range:
- Underground (Y ≤ 63): Maintains vanilla-like ore spawning with slight adjustments
- Low Mountains: Common ores like Coal, Iron, and Copper spawn frequently
- Mid Mountains: Ore frequency decreases, veins become smaller
- High Peaks: Only Iron and Copper remain, becoming increasingly rare
- Extreme Peaks: Gold and Emeralds appear as rewards for reaching the highest elevations
All Y-ranges and spawn counts are dynamically scaled to the detected world height, so ore density stays consistent regardless of how tall your world is.
Vanilla Override Mode:
When enabled, MountainOres completely replaces vanilla ore generation. This prevents datapacks from interfering with ore spawning and ensures consistent resource distribution across your entire world.
Rare Lodes:
Occasionally, players may discover large ore deposits ("lodes") containing significantly more resources than standard veins — a rewarding jackpot for dedicated miners.
Datapack Compatibility:
MountainOres works alongside height-extending and biome-overhaul datapacks out of the box. It uses its own namespace and injects ores via the Fabric Biome Modification API, so there are no conflicts with datapacks that modify vanilla ore features.
Configuration:
A commented TOML config file (config/mountainores.toml) is generated on first launch. By default, the mod auto-detects the world height. For advanced use cases, auto-detection can be disabled and a manual height override can be set instead.
